The six day war

The six day war was from June 5.-10. in 1967. Israel became an own Jewish state in 1948. The neighbors states Egypt, Syria and Jordan (the Arab countries), didn’t like that. Therefore it was often fights at the boarders.
The trigger to the six day war was that Egypt and Syria threatened Israel with an attack. The Arab people were determined to eliminate Israel from the map. On June 5. Israel came with a surprise attack that destroyed much of the Arab countries air force. The days after, Israel attacked on the ground, supported by aircrafts. The Egyptian army escaped through the Sinai desert after the attacks from Israel. On June 7. Israel conquered the West Bank and East-Jerusalem from Jordan. Israel further went into Egypt and took control over the area Sinai to the Suez Canal on June 8., and on June 10. Israel conquered the Golan-heights from Syria. A ceasefire was sign on the June 10. and the war was over.
After six days with war, Israel had control over an area that was four times bigger than their own country. 766 Israeli soldiers were killed, and between 10.000 to 20.000 soldiers from the Arab countries were killed.  Israel said they would give most of the areas back if the Arab countries promised eternal peace. But the Arabs responded with “three no”: No to negotiate with Israel, no to recognize Israel as an independent state and no to have peace with Israel.
The Arab countries got help from The Soviet Union to build up a new and bigger military army, and in 1973 a new war was started against Israel. It’s still conflicts at the boarders between Israel and the Arab countries.
